Greetings from the Graduate School at the University of Texas at Arlington. This edition of the Newsletter will highlight some of the many activities at your alma mater in the past semester. The visit of First Lady Laura Bush during commencement was the highlight of the term, shining a national and international spotlight on UT Arlington and our graduating class. 560 Master’s and Doctoral degrees were awarded on May 12.
In March we celebrated the importance of research and creative activity on campus at our Annual Celebration of Excellence by Students (ACES). A record number of students participated, and we were able to integrate a number of alumni into our judging panels. We hope to increase alumni participation in ACES in the coming year.
New graduate degree programs are being added in the coming year, and we continue to attract outstanding researchers and scholars to join the faculty. Moreover, federally funded research at UTA has increased 211% since 2000. The financial contributions of alumni and friends have greatly aided our growth. I extend my sincere gratitude to everyone who has contributed to the support of our students.
Philip Cohen, Ph.D.
Dean, Graduate School
Vice Provost for Academic Affairs
